Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy

Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT)

Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) is an advanced type of radiation therapy that delivers precise radiation to cancer cells in a faster and more efficient way. In VMAT, the machine moves around the patient in a full or partial circle (arc) while continuously delivering radiation. The strength (intensity) and shape of the radiation beam are adjusted during the movement to target the tumor exactly.

This technique allows for highly accurate treatment, focusing a high dose of radiation on the tumor while protecting nearby healthy tissues.

Benefits of VMAT include:

Shorter treatment times compared to traditional radiation therapy

Greater accuracy in targeting tumors

Effective treatment for complex or hard-to-reach tumors

VMAT is often used for cancers in the brain, head and neck, prostate, cervix, and other areas where precision is important.
